The Sacro Monte di Varese si trova sulla Via Francisca del Lucomagno: un antico tracciato romano-longobardo, storicamente documentato, che da Costanza – centro Europa, attraversando la Svizzera mediante il passo del Lucomagno giungeva a Pavia e lì si collegava con la Via Francigena verso Roma. Il concerto dei Micrologus è dedicato alle musiche dei pellegrini che attraversavano queste vie. Il pellegrinaggio medievale è stato un grande fenomeno di massa che coinvolse folle di pellegrini alla ricerca del perdono. Il canto, la musica, la danza accompagnarono questa esperienza nei vari aspetti : di penitenza (le Laudi di Cortona); di preghiera (ancora le Laudi e le Cantigas de Santa Maria spagnole); di narrazione degli incredibili miracoli accaduti ai pellegrini e di quei miracoli della Vergine che li spinsero al viaggio (le Cantigas de Santa Maria); e infine l’esultanza per il viaggio compiuto, per aver raggiunto la meta agognata, una tale irrefrenabile gioia, dopo tante lacrime e sofferenze, perlomeno nei pellegrini veri, da trasformarsi in danza collettiva (come nei canti del Llibre Vermell del monastero di Montserrat).
