This show was born from the desire to give a performative form to Italo Calvino's Le città invisibili, who knows the meeting of the Terra Mater Ensemble with the actor Sebastiano Bronzato. Published in 1972, The invisible cities are perhaps one of the most original texts of the Italian literature of the second half of the twentieth century. At the court of Kubilai Khan, Marco Polo tells about fifty-five cities with the names of women, fifty-five impossible portraits of human existence, imaginary cities, in which traces of modernity are hidden. In his invention and imagination, Calvino plays to make our reality shine through in all its power. An unclassifiable text that has the acumen of the story, the agility of the aphorism, the power of poetry. The Terra Mater Ensemble traces a musical journey through some of these cities: Despina, Valdrada, Both, Octavia, Chloe, Andria. He interprets the Calvinian text in music, drawing inspiration from the most distant musical traditions, from Portuguese fado to medieval lauda, held together by the search for the same expressive tone, and from the awareness of the universality of the language of traditional music. The music of the Terra Mater Ensemble and the narration of Sebastiano Bronzato are accompanied by the original illustrations by Irene Benciolini.
